Home Care Aides’ Experiences of Verbal Abuse: A Survey of Characteristics And Risk Factors

The article discusses the verbal abuse that home care workers experience. Results indicate that home care workers experience abuse in the workplace at a high rate. Strong predictors of abuse were a physically small workplace and working with clients with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Predictable work hours mitigate the risk of abuse. Changes in training and workplace culture could help prevent verbal abuse toward home care workers.
