JobsFirstNYC
JobsFirstNYC is a nonprofit intermediary organization and a champion for the workforce needs of out-of-school, out-of-work young adults in New York City. Its mission is to improve the system to accelerate the connection of young adults with the economic life of New York City. In 2006, the philanthropic community recognized that a structural approach was needed to address the needs of young people cast adrift in a rapidly changing economy. JobsFirstNYC was established to identify and create mechanisms to connect them to the labor market and to mobilize community, corporate, private, and public resources to support those mechanisms.
JobsFirstNYC pursues three broad strategies aimed at increasing the long-term employment opportunities of these young people: engaging employers in a structured, systemic way; advancing and building on best practices in the young adult workforce development field; and raising public consciousness about the out-of-school, out-of-work challenge.
Since 2014, PHI has been a member of JobsFirstNYC’s Young Adult Sectoral Employment Project (YASEP) Learning Community. Through YASEP, PHI shares our experiences supporting young adults through home care training and job placement programs with other organizations that take a sectoral approach to workforce development for this age group.
