Gwen Smith (she/her)

Gwen Smith is the Controller of PHI. As the Controller, she manages the Finance Department, oversees the accounting function, and leads the day-to-day financial operations. Gwen creates accurate and timely nonprofit financial statements, reports, annual budgets, and implements policies and procedures. She also manages audits and grants.

Gwen has over 15 years of financial management experience leading the accounting and finance operations. She previously held several leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, where she provided financial strategy, reporting and analysis. She has implemented accounting and payroll systems while providing guidance to achieve organizational goals as part of the Executive Team. As the Director of Finance, she reorganized financial operations and collaborated with senior leaders to strengthen organizations and drive business expansion. Gwen has worked with state, city, federal and private funders and foundations, ensuring compliance with the standards of these stakeholders.

Gwen has an MBA in Financial Management from Iona University, as well as a BS in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Stony Brook University.
