A bill to raise the wage of Maine personal care attendants (PCAs) became law on July 12 without a signature from Gov. Paul LePage (R).
L.D. 1350 quickly passed through the Maine House and Senate with significant bipartisan support following its introduction earlier this year.
The new law will provide an additional $250,000 in funding over the next two years to raise the wages of PCAs who are paid through MaineCare, the state’s Medicaid program.
The bill was one of 65 pieces of legislation that became law after LePage declined to either sign or veto them, as part of an ongoing standoff between the governor and the legislature.
LePage is currently appealing to the state Supreme Court to invalidate the new laws.
