REPORT: CNA Turnover Rates Remain High in Assisted Living

Turnover among certified nurse assistants (CNAs) in assisted nursing facilities remains high, according to an analysis (pdf) by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL).

The NCAL report examined turnover and retention rates for 16 job types found within assisted living facilities.

In 2011, CNA jobs turned over at a rate of 26 percent, the report found. Only non-certified resident caregivers and dining staff were found to have higher turnover rates — 44 percent and 31 percent, respectively.

CNAs made up 29 percent of all nursing-related jobs in assisted living facilities, the report found.

The NCAL’s report is its third annual analysis of assisted living staff retention, turnover, and job vacancies. Researchers surveyed 370 assisted living facilities across the country to compile the report.
