Call-In Campaign Promotes U.N. Convention on Disability Rights
November 1, 2012
Activists supporting the rights of people with disabilities have launched a campaign to urge the Senate to formally adopt the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
The U.N.-sponsored convention outlines dozens of rights specific to the disability community, including the right to live in their own communities, with “access to a range of in-home, residential and other community support services.”
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has said that “ratifying this convention is, quite simply, the right thing to do.”
Disability advocates are urged to call or email their senators’ offices, or use Twitter to address them directly using the hashtag #CRPD.
