REPORT: Medicaid Cuts Would Have ‘Dire Results’

Elders, people with disabilities, and low-income people would be among those most harmed if the federal government reduced its financial commitment to Medicaid, according to the March 2013 edition (pdf) of Health Advocate.

Health Advocate is published monthly by the National Health Law Program (NHeLP), a nonprofit that works to advance the health rights of low-income individuals.

In the article, NHeLP Health Reform Director Leo Cuello argues that federal cuts to an already-squeezed Medicaid program could reduce eligibility, eliminate services, lower reimbursement rates, and jeopardize implication of the Affordable Care Act.

“The federal commitment to Medicaid must be maintained, and efforts should be made to find real savings through improved delivery of care,” Cuello writes.
