Institute of Medicine Selects LeadingAge VP as New Member
Robyn Stone was among the 70 new members elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on October 20.
In an October 27 blog post, Dr. Stone described her election to IOM as a “huge honor.”
Dr. Stone is currently the senior vice president of research at LeadingAge, an association of nonprofit organizations working to improve aging services in the U.S.
She is also executive director of the LeadingAge Center for Applied Research, LeadingAge’s policy-analysis and evaluation arm.
Dr. Stone has had a distinguished 35-year career in long-term care and aging services. She previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Disability, Aging, and Long-Term Care Policy at the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
She also is the author of the 2011 book Long-Term Care for the Elderly.
“I take my election as an acknowledgement by the IOM that long-term services and supports are vitally important to America’s health and well-being,” she wrote in the blog post.
“I believe the IOM is beginning to understand that the narrow medical model simply can’t address all the factors that make Americans sick or help them stay well,” she added.
IOM has provided policymakers and organization with independent analysis and recommendations on health issues since its establishment in 1970.
