U.S. Representatives Seek Funding to Strengthen Eldercare Workforce
The budget and appropriations process has begun in the 114th Congress. In a show of support for older adults and the eldercare workforce, 33 members of the House wrote (pdf) to leaders of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to request increased funding for programs to strengthen the workforce.
The letter, circulated by Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Doris Matsui (D-CA), requests appropriations of $44.7 million for geriatrics education programs, $197.5 million for programs that support family caregivers, and $3.4 million specifically to support enhanced training opportunities for direct-care workers.
