Wisconsin Home Care Workers Rally for Better Wages
Wisconsin home care workers and their advocates rallied on June 15 in Milwaukee for a $15/hour wage and better working conditions.
Approximately two dozen workers attended the rally, which was held in front of the headquarters of the Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI), an organization that coordinates long-term care for people with disabilities and special needs. The workers are employed through New Health Services (NHS), an MCFI affiliate.
Through their union, SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin, the workers are asking a $15/hour wage and improved benefits, including paid time off and compensation for travel time.
Currently, the workers earn $11.66/hour.
Nearly 1,200 workers provide home care to an estimated 1,400 consumers through NHS.
