The Pressing Need to Improve Wages and Benefits for the Workers Who Help Aging Americans Stay at Home

This short article examines the causes of high turnover in the increasingly in-demand field of home care. The author, a University of Maine professor, specifically examines the home care workforce in Maine, concluding that wages and benfits are insufficient, and that young home care workers lack meaningful career advancement opportunities. The author suggests several public policies that would benefit home care workers. She also recommends the unionization of such workers to improve wages and benefits.
