Giving Thanks to Direct Care Workers

By Jodi M. Sturgeon (she/her) | November 26, 2024

During this season of gratitude, PHI is thankful for the nation’s more than 5 million direct care workers. Each day, personal care aides, home health aides, nursing assistants, and others enable older adults and people with disabilities to live in our communities with safety, independence, and dignity. They make so much possible for so many. Too often, their contributions go unrecognized.

We would also like to give thanks to you for recognizing the critical importance of these essential caregivers, and the need to ensure they work in quality jobs, inclusive of family-sustaining wages, comprehensive benefits, and advancement opportunities.

In a shifting landscape, PHI’s mission is unchanged. We are resolved to elevate this workforce, in partnership with providers, policymakers, advocates, and the direct care workers who provide essential care and support for so many. We are steadfast in advocating for evidence-based solutions to ensure consumers receive the care they need—by ensuring direct care workers are sustained by the quality jobs they deserve.

On December 3rd, Giving Tuesday, we will all have the power to make a difference in the lives of others. You will have choices to make in your giving—and we hope that you will consider a contribution in support of PHI’s mission. A gift of any size will help to advance our policy, research, advocacy, and workforce interventions that foster quality care through quality jobs and transform long-term care.

From all of us at PHI, thank you for your support. Whether you follow our newsletter, donate to our cause, engage in advocacy, conduct research, or provide care—we appreciate your partnership in this mission, and we wish you and your family the best for the holiday season ahead.
