Upgrading California’s Home Care Workforce: The Impact of Political Action and Unionization

In this overview of home health care in California, the impact of unionization and political action can be seen in increased wages and benefits for home care workers. Based on focus group sessions with home care providers in four California counties, a clear connection between higher wages and increased retention rates is discovered. Retention rates are analyzed by ethnic group and explanations for apparent disparities are discussed.
