PHI’s Policy group develops state and national policy solutions in long-term care and workforce development that support a skilled, caring, and stable direct-care workforce.
Through research and technical support, PHI assists policymakers to:
- Reform long-term care payment and procurement systems to reward provider investments in frontline staff and encourage delivery of quality services.
- Improve direct-care worker wages and access to benefits, increasing the competitiveness of these jobs in the labor market.
- Reform training and credentialing systems to keep up with changes in service delivery and to ensure that all direct-care workers have the knowledge and skills to excel in their roles.
- Analyze current workforce trends and assess future demand in order to design effective workforce development strategies.
- Engage public workforce systems to support the recruitment and training needs of the long-term care sector.
- Design worker registries and other resources to support both consumers and workers in home- and community-based services, and especially for those in consumer-directed programs.
