It is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which has more than two million members and is the largest labor union in North America.
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Fund (TEF) is the largest health care industry partnership in the United States. TEF is jointly governed by 1199SEIU and executives from health care employers, including home care agencies and nursing homes as well as health centers and hospitals. With more than 40 years of experience in workforce development, TEF has prepared thousands of workers for health care jobs. TEF also collaborates with multiple stakeholders—including academic institutions, employers, government agencies, payers, and policy makers—on crafting health care industry standards.
PHI has partnered with 1199SEIU and its Training and Education Fund for years, working on joint advocacy efforts to improve wages and training for the state’s direct care workforce, as well as a successful legislative effort to create an Advanced Home Health Aide job category in New York. We are also working together to build a foundation of knowledge in best practices in long-term care workforce development.
