US Department of Health and Human Services

Discusses the findings of the Personal and Home Care State Training (PHCAST) project, a three-year demonstration program funded through the Affordable Care Act to address the need to train competent direct-care workers capable of caring for an aging population. Six states—California, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, and North Carolina—participated in the program, designing 50 to 120 hour training programs for entry-level and incumbent aides. The report cites a number of positive findings, including high rates of completion and satisfaction among trainees.
