The origins of Better Jobs Better Care

This article presents the history and origins of the Better Jobs Better Care initiative, a multistate demonstration project created to reduce high vacancy and turnover rates of direct-care workers (DCWs) in the long-term care system. It explains the importance of DCWs as the ''eyes and ears'' of long-term care, discusses three key motivations -- quality of care, economic development, and a moral imperative -- to strengthen the workforce; and concludes with prospects and challenges for the future.
