PHI PolicyWorks promotes information, innovation, and action at state and national levels in seven strategic areas:
Wages – Improving wages and benefits for direct-care workers is key to stabilizing employment and providing greater economic security for many low-income families.
Health Coverage – Affordable health coverage is critical to workforce recruitment and stability and ensuring quality care for elders and people with disabilities.
Jobs & the Economy – To stimulate local economies, stem job loss, and stabilize low-income families, state and federal policymakers should invest in direct-care jobs.
Training & Credentialing – A significant investment in training standards, curricula, and infrastructure is needed to prepare greater numbers of workers for direct-care jobs.
State Workforce Monitoring – State policymakers need to develop or enhance workforce data collection and reporting systems to get the hard data they need to make smart decisions.
Public Payment & Procurement – State contracting standards and reimbursement methods are needed that reward providers for superior performance with regard to improving job quality.
Consumer Direction – Multifaceted intermediaries are needed to support consumers and workers in consumer-directed programs, as well as family caregivers.
