The implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has meant unprecedented access to affordable quality health care coverage for direct-care workers and their families. Affordable, quality health care coverage, along with better wages, are critical in improving the lives of direct-care workers and their families. Providing access to health insurance is also essential to improving recruitment and retention and having a healthy and stable workforce to provide quality care to elders and people with disabilities.
What We Are Doing
- Monitoring the implementation of the ACA and how it impacts accessibility and affordability of health care coverage for direct-care workers.
- Providing information and resources through Get Covered Now to assist workers enrolling in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace or the Healthy Michigan Plan.
- Serving on the Leadership Team of Michigan Consumers for Healthcare, the consumer health care advocacy coalition.
- Providing outreach and education to the long-term supports and services stakeholders -- providers, workers, consumers, payers -- on how the ACA will impact workers and providers.
