The New Old Age blog at the New York Times has published a three-part interview series with Marki Flannery on the topic of home health care. Flannery is president of Partners In Care, an affiliate of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, the largest not-for-profit provider of home health care in the nation.
When asked what should be done to support home care workers, Flannery says:
“The place to start is to recognize that certified home health aides provide a specialized service. Only when aides are properly trained and supervised can they provide the highest quality of care, and at the end of the day, that is what we all want for ourselves and the people we love.”
Flannery also stressed that the industry needs to push harder to provide higher wages, more benefits, and more professional recognition for certified home health aides.
