Deane Beebe has joined the PHI Communications Team as the Public Education and Media Relations Director. She will also serve as the managing editor of the PHI Quality Care through Quality Jobs blog and weekly newsletter.
“I look forward to bringing the voice of direct-care workers to policymakers, health care professionals, consumers, and other stakeholders through the media,” said Beebe. “This critical juncture in health care presents the opportunity to inform key audiences that quality care can best be achieved through quality jobs for this essential workforce.”
Beebe has worked as a communications specialist focusing on health care and aging issues for over 20 years at nonprofit and government organizations. Most recently she was the communications manager for the Center for Home Care Policy and Research at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. She served as the Medicare Rights Center’s director of public affairs from 1999 to 2008, where she helped journalists bring the consumer perspective to their coverage on the legislation and implementation of the new Medicare drug benefit.
Earlier in her career, Beebe was a geriatric social worker in Massachusetts, working in community-based programs and nursing homes. She holds an M.A. in communications from Emerson College and a B.A. in sociology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
This fall, Matthew Ozga also joined the PHI communications team as a staff writer. He writes and edits several PHI resources, including the Quality Care through Quality Jobs blog and the National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce. Prior to joining PHI, Matthew was an editor of an educational publication targeted to high school students. He received a B.A. in journalism from New York University.
