The newest additions to PHI’s National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce:
Caregiver Training in America and Southern California – This report is national in scope, but special emphasis is placed on Los Angeles and Orange Counties in Southern California. It provides a systematic representation of how in-home care workers are trained–in what settings, what content is provided, presence of special modules, hours of training, types of caregivers trained, and ”best practices” used.
Eldercare/disability services: Untapped engine for job creation and economic growth – This fact sheet notes that the eldercare/disability services industry sector is a leading industry for job growth, and that direct-care jobs are among the nation’s fastest growing. It argues that given the large size of this workforce and its expected growth, direct-care jobs are uniquely positioned to help repair and stabilize the economy.
Associations among nurse and certified nursing assistant hours per resident per day and adherence to guidelines for treating nursing home-acquired pneumonia – This study finds that certified nursing assistant (CNA) hours per day were significantly associated with better pneumococcal and influenza vaccination rates and that a greater than 70 percent turnover was inversely related to timely physician notification
PHI’s National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce is a national online library for people in search of solutions to the direct-care staffing crisis in long-term care. It houses over 800 articles, reports, issue briefs, and fact sheets on the direct-care workforce.
