As the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes campaign enters its second year, an overhaul of its original eight goals has been announced. Three of these goals relate directly to the workforce.

AE announced that a revision of their eight official goals is “necessary to keep up with the continual drive to improve nursing home practices, upgrade work environments, improve quality and, as an overarching goal, to strengthen a person-centric milieu and a better life for residents.” The announcement along with the eight goals are available in their May 2009 newsletter (pdf).

The last three goals are specific to workforce-related issues:

• GOAL 6 – Staff Satisfaction (new)
• GOAL 7 – Staff Turnover (revised)
• GOAL 8 – Consistent Assignment (revised)

The goals are still being refined by the AE Steering Committee and Goals Task Force. The official rollout date for the revised goals is September 1.
