Rob Callaghan is PHI’s Research Librarian. He researches and writes materials for the Clearinghouse and other projects, building on the work he began as a PHI intern in October 2003.
Prior to joining PHI, Rob interned at an economic justice organization and a domestic violence shelter. He graduated from Hampshire College with a focus in sociology, psychology and social theory and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social research at Hunter College.

Karen Kahn is Director of Communications for PHI. She is responsible for overseeing the production and dissemination of all PHI publications and promoting PHI’s vision for long-term care to key stakeholder audiences, policymakers, and the general public. She is the author of Quality Care Partners: A Case Study and Training Quality Home Care Aides.
Karen began working with PHI in 1998. Prior to that she was editor-in-chief of Sojourner: The Women’s Forum for 10 years. She has written numerous articles on economic, social, and cultural issues affecting the lives of women and children, and edited a collection of essays from Sojourner titled Frontline Feminism (Aunt Lute, 1995). She received her master’s degree in anthropology and completed coursework for her doctorate at the University of Michigan.

Elise Nakhnikian is PHI’s Senior Online Editor. She writes for the PHI blog and edits Quality Care/Quality Jobs, the weekly e-mail newsletter of the National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce. She also manages and develops the content of PHI’s Health Care for Health Care Workers website.
Before joining PHI, Elise was a journalist for about 20 years. She spent the last seven of those years covering long-term care, first as editor-in-chief of Contemporary Long Term Care magazine and then as editor of two websites for nursing home, assisted living and home care providers. She graduated with a BA in English from the University of Michigan.

Jill Tabbutt-Henry is PHI’s Curriculum Writer, with responsibility for coordinating the agency’s efforts to develop and prepare for dissemination a variety of teaching materials for direct-care workers and their supervisors. These include an entry-level curriculum for direct-care workers, a peer mentoring curriculum, a training guide for coaching supervision, and related training materials.
Jill has over 20 years of experience in various aspects of community health education and training, with over 15 years of conducting training for reproductive health staff in developing countries. Jill’s first curriculum, Strengthening Communication Skills for Women’s Health: A Training Guide, was published by Family Care International (New York) in 1995, and she has worked on numerous curriculum projects since that time. She received her master’s in public health degree from New York University in 1987.

Hadas Thier is the Associate Online Editor of PHI’s National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce and other PHI-affiliated websites. She writes material for, maintains the content of, and works towards the overall development of PHI’s website communications.
Hadas is a frequent contributor to a number of publications, writing on labor and social justice issues. She graduated from the City College of New York with a focus in history and English.

As Online Communications Director, Aaron Toleos manages PHI’s strategic use of websites, email, video, and other new media in the interest of advancing the Quality Care through Quality Jobs message.
Aaron is an award-winning web developer in the field of higher education and has been nationally recognized for his use of the web as a platform for political activism. He graduated from the College of William & Mary with a BA in history and government and earned an MA in English from Salem State College.
